Okay, I can see where it's a "real" job

I'm one of the few people who actually like taxes. I dunno--something about them? I like the order and tidiness. It's like a big mental puzzle, only with money.

Money always makes me think better.

So there I was--puttering along in class, thinking, wow, this is cool, but when I get an entry-level job in my new field, what am I going to do all day? How big a company will I have to work for to get a straight forty entering bills and things? And will they really pay me decent money to sit and tippy-tap on a computer?

I just finished the fifteen and a half hour Quickbooks marathon from Hell
. Going along, going along--all happy and entering stuff, it seemed like an easy system. What you see is definitely what you get. And then my numbers didn't match.

Not that I was the only one. Everyone's numbers didn't match, except for the random smug person who took (imho) malicious delight in going on the class message board and telling people how easy it was.

I tried every trouble-shooting technique known to the Dummies books and Google. But since I'm only on chapter five, it was a rough fix. After crashing my computer twice, and eating backup files like popcorn, I got the right numbers.

Thank God.

I'm so tired. Little arrows, check registers, pay bills and create invoices. I have huge respect for people who can just whip through it. Although...one day, I'll be one of them. :) And I'll get to do this all day long.

Yes...companies will pay you decent money to tap at a computer all day. :-)

At the accounting firm I work for, we actually have 3 full time people who go out to clients and help them w/ Quickbooks. So, keep plugging away.

Kaycee, I think every writer I know is an accountant/bookkeeper or financial something of some sort. I feel lonely playing catch up. :(

*sigh* Should have done it years ago.
It's funny my word ver is "backstori", lol.

Well, I work in Accounting (as an A/P), and skim the edges of Quickbooks. Okay, maybe I'm up to the third foot in the pool, lol.

But not getting the numbers to match, and not find out why for hours? Or...TAXES? You're talking about my own personal hell there, Jodi.

Hah!

At one point I worked for an international corporation. My sol job was to keep track of assets. I noticed that the swearing levels went way up right before I had to do all my balances. Took me forever to realize it was when the rest of the accountants in my department were doing their inventory balances. A day or two later when my numbers came in and I started on my balances, I'd be the one swearing.
